'I am now in a place where I am completely fulfilled' (UWV Magazine)
UWV Magazine – ‘One of the misconceptions of the century is that disabled people are sick a lot,’ argues Nadia van den Heuvel, owner of design agency Ictoria. Partly because of this perception, people with disabilities are unfairly denied opportunities in the labor market. To change that image, Nadia started her own company where people with disabilities can develop themselves and move on to other companies.
UWV Magazine spoke with Frank Teklenburg and Kim de Rooij about their work at Ictoria.
Frank Teklenburg (43) is in a wheelchair due to a lack of oxygen at birth. That doesn’t stop him from pursuing a career in communications. But finding a company where he could show what he has up his sleeve didn’t prove so easy. Until he came into contact with Ictoria.
Kim de Rooij (51) is a mother of three children. Due to osteoarthritis and post-traumatic stress disorder, Kim has been unable to work for several periods. At Ictoria, she has finally found a place where she gets the space to be herself.
