'Both the PTSD and the osteoarthritis don't show on me' (UWV Facebook)

UWV Facebook – “Both PTSD and osteoarthritis don’t show on me. As a result, I was often overloaded and I couldn’t express my limits well. I often dropped out and kept changing jobs.’ The municipality put Kim in contact with web design company Ictoria. She now works there on a permanent basis. “I feel completely at home here.

‘Since I was 18, I have osteoarthritis in my knees, ankles, and shoulders and can’t physically handle as much. I also have PTSD due to an abusive relationship. This makes me less able to handle work pressure or psychological pressure.

In 2003, I was given the opportunity to train as an administrative assistant. That seemed like a nice profession and also less physically demanding. But the company where I came to work overcharged me enormously and there was no understanding of my limitations. It didn’t take long until I suffered a burnout and subsequently ended up on sickness benefit.

The municipality suggested engaging in conversation with Nadia, owner of the company Ictoria. There, people with disabilities can develop and move on to other companies. ‘The first conversation was immediately so nice! Nadia was the first person to ask me in all those years: ‘what do you want?’
After a trial placement, I entered permanent employment and do administrative work, among other things. What makes Ictoria such a nice place to work is that there is understanding. The work culture here makes it easy to state your limits. That is so valuable to me.
