A look at one of the Netherlands’ most inclusive employers

When Nadia van den Heuvel quit her high-earning job at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, she had not yet thought of creating her own work. And not just for herself… Through her multimedia design agency Ictoria, she has now helped more than 60 people with a perceived distance from the labour market into work. ‘I deliberately say perceived, because I believe that if you put someone in the right setting that any distance can be bridged.’

Nadia started her own graphic design company. The first graphic designer she hired was Yirka. ‘Yirka has an auditory challenge. But she is so incredibly sharp graphically, precisely because she perceives the world differently. I actually had no money at all to hire her. I hired her on my savings.’ A gamble that paid off. Meanwhile, the entrepreneur from Brabant employs 14 people and has a network full of entrepreneurs who regularly ask her for an ‘Ictorian’.
